Saoirse a two sometimes three sometimes ten piece band hail from Glasgow Scotland and are fronted by well known and respected musician Padraig mor Bonnar from Glasgow by way of Annagry Co Donegal.Their songs record stories from the annals of Irish history past and present, of the unrest and the plight of the Irish people in occupied Ireland from the early centuries right up until today.
Saoirse were formed as an Irish rebel band back in the day by Padraig mor and friends when it was not all that popular and indeed not very safe in many areas to sing songs about Irish resistance against british occupation in Ireland.
During the troubled years in Ireland there was always the constant threat of harassment and intimidation for bands like Saoirse and other rebel bands from that area like Eire og , Blarney Pilgrims ,Athenrye etc going to play in concerts at republican functions in Ireland, however it did not deter them either from traveling to or supporting the cause and traditions of Irish republicans in their time of need.
Today Saoirse still carries on that tradition it started many years ago, playing Irish rebel music and folk songs about Ireland to huge audiences that gather to hear them in many towns and cities through out Ireland, britian, Europe and the U.S.A.Their songs and music are still very popular with old and new fans alike, greatly respected and often compared to that of legendery Irish rebel bands the Wolfe Tones, Pangur Ban , Barleycorn etc.
